GERMANS TOO STRONG IN THE TRACK EVENTS AGAINST GREAT BRITAIN
Though Great Britain, through Gordon Pirie, Freddie Green, Frank Fando and Walter Hesketh, collected maximum points in the 5,000 and 10,000 Metres runs in the athletic match with Germany at Berlin on August 29 and 30, the German strength in the sprints and middle c'istance won the match.
Roger Bannister's presence may have cut down the Germans' margin of victory-112 points to 94—but Britain lacked strength in the sprints and the 400 Metres, the two relays being lost also as a result of this weakness,
Brith victories in four al the eight field events were on unusual feature of the match. It had always amazed Germans in the past when Britain won 13 any as one.
