Helicopter Squadron For Malaya

Gosport, Des. 8. Naval helicopter pilots who

are shortly going to Malaya have been practiting for jungle opera tions by landing and taking off in restricted areas in the New Forest,

"It has given us a lot of useful experience! „Lieutenant – Com- mander S. H. Sulhert, command- Ing officer of No. 848 Squadron-- the Navy's first front-line hell- copter squadron-sald today.

The squadron will be the Navy's Arst helicopter unit in Malaya. It is equipped with Sikorsky HRS-2 machines which arrived in Britain last month from the United States under the mutual ald-prograning.

This type of helicopter, atted with a 600 horse-power engine, can fly at 120 miles an hour for a limit of five hours,

The squadron, which is based at the navar dir station t Gosport, leaves for Malay next week in HM.S. Pegasus, which Is at present lying at Forts mouth
