YING WAH GIRLS' SCHOOL TO BE ENLARGED

Half Million Dollar Project

A half a million dollar scheme to enlarge the London Mission Society's Ying Wah Girls' School in Seymour Road is now in hand. The School is making a public appeal for $250,000 towards the cost, and Government has promised a dollar for dollar contribution.

For some time past the School has experienced con- siderable difficulty through insufficient accommodation to cater fully for its 580 pupils.

The now wing will provide 12 additional classrooms, a much needed gymnaalum, selence laboratory, domestic science room, geography room and library.

The enlarged school will also permit extra pupils, and when it is completed Ying Wah Girls' will be able to offer | aplendid educational facilities for some 600 pupils.

Workmen bereived the two wings of

the existing

buildings last Friday, and these ILLEGAL

are already a mass of rubble, Depending on the weather, the new wing should be completed sometime next February; the architects estimate 180 days for the building kd go up.

Why we say Cat-o'- nine-tails...

The "cat" is a whip with nine lashes which might -bo sald to scratch the back as A cat scratches with claws. It proverbially has nine tails ̈ partly ̈ because a cat has nine lives and partly be cause nine is a "trinity of trinities" and ac- cording to superstition would for that reason be more effective..
