Helsinki, July 24.

Emil Zatopek, the Czech wonder, brought off an historic Olympic double today by winning the 5,000 Metres in record time. He had won carlier the 10,000 Metres race, It was the first time that a runner had won both these races at the same Games since 1912.

The Czech's brilliant spurts during the three-mile 188-yard race today de feated a tenacious field in 14 mins, 6.6 secs. Britain's Chris Chataway, red-headed Oxford graduate, was up with him almost to the end, then crashed into the bank and collapsed with a cut ankle. He picked himself up and, white as a sheet, ho ran into fifth place behind Britain's Gordon Pirie, the South London Harrier, who was fourth.

As In the 10,000 Metres, Alain, Mimoun, the French Moroccan, came second, timed at 14 mins. 7.4 secs. Herbert Schade (Ger- many) took third place in 14 ming, 8.8 sec.
