Mr Richard Stokes, Lord Privy Seal in Mr Clement Attlee's Cabinet, urged the British Government today to recognise King Farouk as King of the Sudan as "the only way out of the present deadlock."

Mr Stokes, British negotiator last year in the ill-fated oil dispute with the Persian Premier, Dr Mohammed Mossadegh, called for a construc tive approach in the current talks with Egypt and suggested that the status of the Sudan in relation to Egypt should be modelled on the relation- ship between Canada and Britain,
