Mr Chan Kwan-po, Assistant Lecturer in the Chinese Department of the Hongkong University was called to the witness-box by the Defence this morning when the trial of the publisher, printer and editor of the Ta Kung Pao, charged with sedition, was resumed. He gave his interpreta- tion of certain Chinese characters which had appeared in a Ta Kung Pao article forming the subject matter of the alleged sedition.

Oil refining and distribution for local con- sumption in Iraq will become nationalised under- takings in three months when the Government Oil Refineries Administration Law comes into effect. The law, turning over these undertakings to a five- man Government Board, was passed by the Iraqi Parlia ment last month following ratification of the agreement signed on Christmas Day with the two Anglo-Iranian subsidiaries in this country - Khanaqin Oil Company, operating refining, and Rafidain Oll Company, handling distribution.
