The Singapore Charaber wants much smaller quota, mainly because of the rapidly "dropping re-export-trade-with

Indonesia.

Certain traders fear that in- poets of Japanese textiles on the 1051 level might force them to sell at "clow the line" prices until trade with Indonesin improves.

The Singapore Chamber wants the 1948 or 1949 level of trade with Japan, when textiles Country Imported from that amounted to only a little more both than S$200,000,000 for Singapore and the Federation,

The Federation has very ite re-export trade with neighbour- Ing countries. The Chambers of Commerce there want a much smaller quota than that fixed in March. Reuter.

Sugar Expected To Increase During 1952

Return To Pre-War

Conditions Likely

Paris, Apr. 9.

CONTROL

OF CAR IMPORTS

World production of sugar in 1950/51 beat all previous records. Four million tons more than in the previous year were produced and 1950/51ment announced today that it production was higher by 6,000,000 tons than pre vehicle imports from the United war levels.

The market, however, fluctuated considerably. Top price in Cuba was 8.05 cents a pound and the lowest 4.70 cents.

The fact that the world easily absorbed this 4,000,000-ton surplus creates optimism over future trends of consumption.
