Limited Western
Trade With East Defended
Washington, Oct. 31.
A State Department official today defended a Western and limited trade exchange between Eastern Europe, and declared the United States should not discourage this commerce because many basic commodities needed by America's allies still
come from the Soviet bloc.
Mr Harold Liner, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, told the national conference on United States foreign policy that Western Europe cannot be expected to adopt an export control policy as restrictive as that followed by the United States.

Corporation 'Based On
The Wrong Approach'
CRITICISMS BY PEER
London, Oct. 31.
The Colonial Development Corporation is an unimaginative enlargement of old ideas and is based on a wrong approach to the whole question : of Colonial development.
So writes Lord Milverton, until recently a part-time member of the Corporation and a former ! Colonial Governor, in "New Commonwealth."
"Colonial development must what Is known as Western be closely the responsibility of civilisation, the local Colonial Government in cech instance," he says,
