International Fund's Proposals Expected
MAY RECOMMEND HOLDING LEVEL
New York, July 26,
The International Monetary Fund is likely to recommend that mem- ber nations continue to hold the gold price at US$35 an ounce, the Journal of Commerce said today.
It added, however, that this is likely merely to increase the num- ber of nations making "by-passing arrangements."
The authoritative financial newspaper, after pointing out that the Fund is expected to make the views known by September, stated, “Foreign exchange and gold authorities are betting that the Fund will again go on record for holding the line at the $35 an ounce level but its refusal to approve sales at premiums merely widens the circle of nations making by-passing · arrange- ments.
