England's spin bowler, Roy Tattersall (Lan-Compton cashire), exploiting the rain-damaged pitch, was the wrecker of South Africa's hopes. He took seven wickets for 52 runs in the first innings, and in the second had secured two for 36 runs. This gives him the fine figures of nine wickets for 88 runs on the day.
