Says McDONALD
BAILEY
British athletes
With many brilliant successes to cheer them on, have adopted a new and better outlook on the sport. I have never been really able to find out the reason for the complacency hitherto, but it now seems certain that British athletes realise more than ever that they ure as good as any in the world.
This is a wonderful change. For example, I was talking to my Poly team. mate, Arthur Perry, the junior who amazed us two years ago by running a half- mile in the creditable time of 1 min. 56,3 sec., and Arthur, far from being satisfied, Is thinking in terms of bigger and better achievements.
Perry the was not boasting) tells me that his one ambition is to smash the world record for the 800 metres (1 min, 46.6 secs.) made by the Inte Rudolph Har- big, of Germany, in 1939.

THE SKY SEEMS TO BE THE LIMIT WITH THE POLE VAULTERS Says FRANK WALDMAN
Los Angeles.
In pole vaulting today, apparently "the sky's the limit." For the first time since the early 40's when Cornelius Warmerdam was making his 43 crossings of the 15-foot har, America has another 15-foot vaulter, America has a trio of 15-foot vaulters. In fact, they are beginning to come in clusters, like bananas.
