PROBLEM OF COAL FROM POLAND.
Geneva, Apr. 25.
The troublesome question of when and to what extent it is ad- vantageous to trade with your enemies is again under review by the United States and the Western European Governments.
From time to time many American and some Western European officials have almost reached the point at which,
in hopes of being able to lead quieter lives, they would Down..
be prepared to go along with the political extremists who. keep clamoring for complete stoppage of East-West trade.
Almost but not quite — and that is the situation
now.
At the moment
a practical problem is raised by the CITI- barrassing fact that Western Europe depends on Poland for some 10,000,000 tons of eval annually. Nearly 40 per cent of the colting coals entering in- ternational trade in Europe come from that Communist
country.
