When "An_Inspector Galls" made its first ap- arance on the London stage in 1946, its--merits you are: Sleepy Legoon. ceived a signal tribute. It was presented, by the d Vic Company, when that company was at the ight of a triumphant London season. Only once fore had the Old Vic produced a new play by a ntemporary author, its usual policy being to age established classics.
In this broadcast version, · Richard Williams, the BBC Repertory Company, gives a superb rformance of the central character, Inspector pole, around whom the play is built. The drama 18 tension and humour, and over it all broods an ld, mysterious air that puts an edge upon the stener's speculations about the Inspector's identity hd how it is all going to finish.
