THE CHINA MAIL, THURSDAY, MARCH 22, 1951.

HOW SHE DID IT "RAPIER" WEIGHS UP THE CHANCES AT THE VALLEY AT SATURDAY'S RACES

Jeannette Altwegg, four-time British Champion and current European titleholder, has added the 1951 world women's figure skating championship to her laurels in Milan, Italy. She put-skated 22 rivals from

nine nations to win the crown.

The Easter Race Meeting_under the auspices of the Hongkong Jockey Club will start on Saturday at the Valley and will continue on Monday.

The first Saddling Bell will be rung at 11.30 a.m, both days, the first starting at midday. The tiffin interval will be taken after the finish of the fourth race, and the first bell after tifin will be rung at 2.30 p.m.

The programme cach day will consist of 12 evonta. Saturday's, most impor- tant event is the Sassoon Challenge Cup while on Monday the Easter Handicap is the main attraction.

SECOND RACE

Section): One Mile The opening race on Saturday io confined to Australian Ponies Cinas B with Novico Jockeys as riders. In my estimation, the result will be decided between Thunderjet (Mr Chuang), Hur ricane

(BT Auchnie), Easy- going (Mr Chun Kit) and The Stranger (Mr C. A. Lee).

Judging from its last outing when it won the Old Course Handicap

the Arst day of the Annual Race Meeting, Thunderjet is my choice and I think it should win again with Hurricane and Easy-going as the main opposition.

I would, however, recommend keeping The Stranger In mind as this pony is fighting it at the moment and may possibly create an upëot.

The Dragons Have Finally Succeeded In Winning The Ernie Hearther Trophy

By "GRANDSTAND”

Clawing after the junior softball title for two years, the Dragons finally suc- ceeded in annexing the Ernie Hearther Trophy, as they are now three clear games over the nearest opposition and have only one more game to complete before they finish the series.

The Blackhawks, who started out as favourites, disappointed fans when they dropped the first three decisions, while the Rexes, who have been chasing after the elusive-rainbow for three years, ended up in the ditch again, with only a single vic- tory to their credit.
