BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS OPEN WITH JUNIOR MATCHES AT CRAIGENGOWER

By "ARGONAUT"

Happy Valley, bechive of many sporting activities, became the centre of yet another form of sport last night when the Hongkong Bad- minton Open Championships opened at the Craigengower Cricket Club. This was the first time in the history of the game that badminton has been played in the Valley region,

There should have been seven first round, matches in last night's programme, but all the four competitors in the Schoolboys' Doubles event failed to show up, necessitating the scratching of one game.

For opening first round games, the attendance was above expectations and the standard of play in both the Schoolboys' and Junior events showed a remarkable improvement on that of last year.
