HIGH SPEED WINS NEW YEAR

HANDICAP BY A LENGTH

Ben's Beri Wyvis (D. Black) finished third, two lengths behind Panda, while Lam C. Cheong's Bashful Beauty (C. H. Renfrew), the hottest favourite, was un- placed in fourth position. There were six starters in the race which was confined to Australian Class 1-A ponies,

Sapper Wins Annual Harrier Road Race

The annual International Harrier Race, which commenced and finished out- side the Kowloon Magistracy, was run yesterday and won by S/Sgt West of the Royal Engineers. Of the number that started, which was 112, only 12 failed to finish the course. The field contained over 20 Army runners who were prominent throughout and actually provided 12 placings in the first twenty to finish.

The time taken was alightly more than last year, by 10 seconds, and the first lady to finish was Little Chung Shui Hing, a schoolgirl of 16 from the Maryknoll College who finished tenth in the fine time of twenty minutes twenty-eight seconds.
