In recent years the name of Christopher Fry has leaped into fame in the English theatre, and in "The Lady's Not for Burning' was hailed as per-hell (Ward)-Solo of the haps the most remarkable of his poetic comedies.

This is the broadcast version of the fantastic tale of a young soldier of the Fifteenth Century who is disgusted with life, and a girl who is un- justly condemned as a witch. Having had a long run in the West End of London, "The Lady's Not for Burning' is now playing to packed houses in New York.

'On the Eve of a New Day' is a strange story, telling of the dream-like experience of an American traveller following, quite by chance, a desert trail in Mexico which takes him to the imaginary town of San Ignacio. There he finds the people waiting and praying, as their old world dies and a born; for their forebears have for countless held the belief that every 50 or 52 years the world is re-born. Jones, from the outside world, is one of the very few who know the truth. But, as with a number of parables, truth has many meanings.

new one

The part of the American reporter, Jones, is taken by Bernard Braden, the Canadian actor who is becoming increasingly well-known in England. The writer of this play, Ernst Schnabel, is

of foremost men in German radio today.
