The first of 27,000 troops of the U.S. Seventh Infantry Division began landing on the Korean East coast at Iwon today under orders to drive straight for the Manchurian border, 75 air miles to the North Wast.

The landing was made on a beachhead about one mile North of Iwon. There was no opposition and no mines to endanger. the 50 vessels carrying the troops ashore.

The 10 leading ships began putting the 17th Regimental Combat Toom of the Seventh Division ashore on Sunday morning. The full unit was ox- pected to be landed by the afternoon and to start marching North before dork.
