THAILAND RICE STILL MEETING BIG DEMAND
Bangkok, September 19.
World demand for Thailand rice continues to 'be groat five years after the end of World War II. The granary of Asia exported 843,500 tons of rice to deficit countries for the first seven months of this year-a post-war record. Almost the entire export-] able surplus of this year's tor- get of 1,200,000 tons has been allocated. New commitments Will have to be based on avail- able surpluses.
Trade circles report that there has been renewed interest in rice from nearby deßeit areus since the Korean war. Countries whose staple diet is rice are showing a tendency to lay in stocks in case supply sources should be
