Britain has reached a tentative agreement with two American oll companfør under which the companies would sell Iraq oil in the sterling area through British concerns, subjeer to British taxation, the Journal of Commerce reported here today.

The companies, the Standard Oil of New Jersey, and the Socony-Vacuum, would remain free to sell oll obtained in Irag outside the sterling area for whatever currency they could get, in competition with British companies.

Iraq oil is British-produced,† but the two firms hold a 20,7: interest in the British Iraq, Company.
