Humour, pathos and thrills galore....all can be had for only 10 cents a booklet at any of the Colony's stroof libraries where young and old, shop fokis, students or wharf coolies, gather to spend a few minutes in another world.
Booklets lent on the spot are the Chinese version of the modern "Tip Top" or "Captain Marvel" pulps, depicting history in the making in the past centuries, Chinese legendary fantasies, modern romances and war adventures.
The exact number of these lend-on-the-spot libraries cannot be ascertained as no llcence is re- quired to open business. How ever, those in the know belleve there are more than 3,000 on the Mainland and Island, including the fishing centres..
