OUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Sir, Wint good is it to publian dong Jetters in which nothing but bowailing complaints can be found? "And .. why eritlelse the Glavernimmt who, for four long years, have endeavoured pains- takingly to preserve this very last bastion of Western Demo- cracy which provided the securi- ties of penec and freedom; and so far, succeeded.

You want public llbraries schools for workers'

children cheaper accommodation' for the low-paid groups, playgrounds for children, a tunnel or a new pier and what not. You want them quick, and all of them.

You should have known that more publie amenity means more Government speiding; morc Government spending means more tax. And you complain of taxation.

I greatly appreciate the spirit' of these public-minded corres- pondents. But to my regret, they are all barking up the wrong tree. They should have turnci thair trumpets to the people, the people Who hove monetary power to all these people, not to a particular few of them. Give them your plans, your schemes and your proposals openly. The Government will he only too gndi to co-operate with you. I know there are great numbers of phi- lanthropic people, and would-be- philanthropists, who, upon realis- ing the danger of living in such a chaotic and destructible world caused by merc aliishness, will spontaneously jola hands with the planners: to plan for a better morrow not only for the sake of themselves but also for their next) generation,

Yours etc..
