The broad Champs Elysées became a littered battle- field today as truncheon-charging polica and stone-throwing demonstrators clashed by the hundreds in front of the offices of the news- paper "Figaro."
Cafe chairs and tables were hurled through the air by screaming, shouting demonstrators, who were pushed back from "Figaro's" ram- parts by the swirling, cutting capes of a solid wall of police.
