SKYMASTER TIPPED TO

NEWBURY HANDICAP

WIN

(By "RAPIER")

The Fourth Race Meeting under the auspices of the Hong Kong Jockey Club to be hold this afternoon, will ogain consist of 10 events, the main attraction being the Newbury Handicap for Class 1A Australian Ponies.

This is the fifth race on the programme and it } will be contested over the two mile post.

This race will be robbed of a good deal of its interest, due to the fact that-Bushful Beauly, the Champion pony, has not been' entered. I will, there- fore, he left to Skymaster and to Egyptian Field to battle out the finish.

since its last outing, and for those who prefer to take a chance. 1 recommend keeping an eye on it.

Conditions for reeing should be favourable, and with the track on the hard site there is every reason, to anticipate that the various events will be keenly Euntested.

Race No. 1-Alexander Park Handicap (First Section): Six Furlongs. The curtain rines with this event for Australian Ponies of previous seasons classified Class 7, with Novice jeteys as pilots, interesting race

and most ahould ensue.

Flying Wheel (Mr. Maycock), by virtue of its second placing in the Windy Fap Handicap (Third Section), over the mile at the Inst meeting, will no dould be in big demand.

1, however, prefer Flight (Mr. Lam Khig-tak, which was off-

elully fourth in the ubove race

First Section over the same dis tunce.

On that performance, Flight should win, but hon Mask (Mr. Tseng) is also dangerous,

This is the main event of the afternoon and in confined to Class IA Australlan Ponies of previous

seasons.

The race should revolve into a great battle between Skymaster Mr. Tro), Egyptian Field (Bir. Maltland), Golden Dahlia (Mr. Holgate), Arabian Dagger, (Mr Shich) and Ben Wyvis (Mr. Black),

In the absence of Bashful Beauty, which has not entered, there are many who feel fully confident that Skymaster, in spite of carrying top weight of 150 lbs will win.

in my opinion, it will have to he in exceptionally good condi- tion w stave off the challenge from the other ponies I have named.

Skymaster has to concede a be Egyptian Field, 12 lbs to Galden Dahlia, 21 lbs to Arablan Dagger and 24 lbs to Ben Wyvis.

At the Annual Meeting, Sky- master won the Eastern Handicap carrying 159 lbs in 144-2/5 and then came accond in the Cham- pion Stakes to Dashful Beauty,

Rare treat for rugger enthusiasts

(By "J, T. STUD")

Following unexpectedly on the heels of the “savons” tournament, which normally heralds the and of the local rugger season, the challenge match between the Club and Army at Happy Valley on Sunday promises to be a rare treat for enthusiasts of the carrying code. The proceeds of this match, the primary reason for which it was arranged, are to be devoted towards the Club's Rugby Section Interport Fund.

The game therefore deserves ; departed for Home, the support of all interested change and is likely in the advancement of local veller in the loose

heavier elvilian eight. rugger.

No startling changes The Club Atteen recorda no startling changes, although I feel the loss of R. de Rome and 1. Carrel will count heavily against the civilians.

The Army powers that be have taken the match seriously and following Thursday evening's full scale trial, have selected an ex- tremely strong fifteen.

Several changes were forced on the Service selectors, but with new talent available I do not consider the side in any way inferior to that which has done duty throughout the senson, In fact, on paper it appears to be stranger.

A definite find. Tomline, who makes his debut at full-back, caught the eye dur- ing the "Sevens" tournament with his smash tackling ond determined running and is a de- finite find,
