PARCELS AROUSE STORM
London, October 19. Does it look. like Britain is to begging when official letters other countries are stamped for "Britain Says Thank You Food Parcels"?
You'll have to make up your own mind. The House of Com- mons could not decide today. It left the question hanging after a mild storm between the Food Minister, Joha Strachey, and several angry Members both Labour and Parties.
from Conservative
Mr. Strachey said Britain has received 70,000,000 food parcels mainly from the United States and
Commonwealth countries like
Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa. So be asked the Post Office to begin stamping letters from his Minis- try. "Britain Says Thank You for Food Parcels.”
But, said MPs, some of these letters went to Italy and Ger- many.
This, cried Conservative J. A. Britain Boyd Carpenter, makes "appear to beg for presents from our defeated enemies."
"Would it not be less humi- liating for British subjects not to beg at all?" he asked.

Calcutta, October 19. With six weeks left for the har- vest, West Bengal Communists are reported to be intensifying their propaganda among the peasantry,
