"Woke Of The Red Witch," now showing at the Lee Theatre, is a well-done screen version of a popular novel.

REX HARRISON SCORES, IN COMEDY-THRILLER AT ROXY, BROADWAY

Rating: "

An enjoyable and refreshing romedy comes to the Roxy and Broadway Theatres this week-end with the screnning of "Unfaithfully Yours," written, produced and whose films often been noted directed by Preston Sturgess, for novelty and nonsense. Starring Rex Harrison, who is rapidly climbing the ladder of success in Hollywood, and Lindo Darnell, "Unfaithfully Cours" has so mony good points to its credit that its greatest weak- ness-o repetition of gags-isn't noticeable to the average cinema-goer. "Soxy Rexy" plays an aging, temperamental and

rather volatile symphony conductor who is madly in love with his beautiful, albeit naive, young wife (Linda Darnell). Told of on alleged affair during his absence between her and his handsome (and young secretary (Kurt Krouger) Harrison is at first wander- fully annoyed, then suspicious and finally ro- morseful at the straying of his beloved. Benotting over

John Wayne and Gail Russell head a balanced cast which includes Gig Young, Adele Mara and Luther Adler-all comparative newcomers who, nevertheless, do well in the picture.

Strappho Wayne portrays tempestuous scoundrel turn be- tween love and vengeance, while Adler plays a shipping magnete whose vast empire reaches into every remate Ingoon of the South Sens. He heads a giant enterprise called "Batjak. Ltd.," which rose from a group of tramp schooners pirating their way through the Dutch East Indies to a gigantic network of vessels captained by men of dubious character and pre- datory tendencies.

When Wayne loses the

woman

he loves, he sinks his ship, the "Ret Witch," with a fortune in gold bullion on board. The ensuing tale is one of blood-thirsty re- venge, with Wayne and Adler striking at cach other with all they've got.

Gall Russell lends charm and distinction if not acting ability to her role of Angelique, inno- cently caught up in the Batjak maelstrom until it ullimately des- trays her. Adele Mara deserves special mention for a fine and Ben- sitive performance as the half- caste beuaty who is loved by Gig Young.

Highlight of the film are several underwater sequences and Join Wayne's battle with an over-sized oclonus provides enough thrills to satisfy the most blood-thirsty fan. All told, "Wake Of The Red Witch" is enjoyable with appeal to a large cross- section of local cinema-goers.

This breezy-paced story divides Rhumour and drama evenly, with the action and suspense centring on the attempt of a rival underworld character to cut into the would-be gentleman's mys- terious income.

Involved are Tom Drake, play. ing an ex-prison pal of Beery's and Dorothy Patric, a down-on- her-luck actress who poses as Boery's daughter in an attempt to ferret out information as to
