Berlin, September 9. Russian tommy-gunners tonight fired into a crowd of Berliners after demonstrators had torn down the Soviet flag during an anti-Communist rally-a quarter of a million strong-in the Bri- tish sector.

According to German sources, two demonstrators

climbed to the top of the Brandenburg Gate from the British side of the sector boundary and tore down the Russian flag marking the be- ginning of Soviet-controlled territory.

A Russian jeep, containing an officer and two tommy-gunners who had earlier been stoned in front of the Russian war memorial in the Bri- tish sector, drove at full speed to the gate.
