Exchange Rate May Be Fixed

Washington, June 9.

A high official source today said that the United States Govornmont was nearing a decision on whothor to attempt the establishment of o commercial foreign exchange rate for the Jap- anose yon within the near future or to delay action again.

The sources said they hoped decision could Be reached #

by Departments among July 1. They added that if the decision should be in favour of establishing such a rate, then probably something would be done during July.

They emphasized, however, that, no firm predletion should be made. One of the questions under consideration, they said, was whe- ther an exchange rate could be extablished without underwriting It with some United States. Gov- ernment funds. They opined that prospects appeared poor that some or all of the US$160,000,000 for Japanese domestic rehabilitation, which the House Committee had deleted from the foreign aid bill. would be restored by. *#12
