France will use gold valued at twelve milliard francs (approximately £25,000,000) for essen- 'tial. imports from dollar countries during the second half of 1947, the French National As- sembly decided today. Authorisation for the transfer of gold from the Bank of France to the nation's foreign ex- change stabilisation fund was approved, after a short debate, by 356 votes against 48, with the Communists abstaining.

It was announced during the discussion that the twelve mil. Hard frane transfer would re- duce France's gold stock to 392 tona.

At the end of 1945, this stock tofalted 988 tens, the Deputies were told, that by the end of 1946 the Alock had been re- duced to 483 tons.
