Business Indices Close To Peaks

New York, Oct. 21. ́ Steel production hit a new post-war high last week as other major business indices held close to previous peak levels. The physical volume was larger in retail trade, soft coal, crude oil, electric power and motor

car output.

Steel mills worked at 905 per cent of capacity, the highest- since July 30, 1945 and pared with 90.4 per cent in th previous week and 66.3 a yem age.

Freight loadings totalled 890,- 443 against 906,848 and 754,- 550.

Crude oil output averaged 4,838,400 barrels daily against 4,736,566. the previous week and 3,780,650 a year ago.
