FROM TIME IMMEMORIAL MAN his glorified the human body. For centuries sculptors, poets and painters alike have praised the fine physiques of track and field athletes. The ancient Greeks con- sidered imperfect physical development a disgrace, consequently even the youths sought to develop a beautiful and well proportioned body. In addition each individual aspired to excel in speed, endurance and courage. Hence it was only natural for these aspiring champions to turn to track and field sports as the media through which these qualities were to be developed.
