MUSLIM PLAN FOR

INDIA

Muslims would

never

agree to any constitution for the whole of India providing for one Govern- ment at the centre, de- clared Mr. Jinnah. Pre- sident of the Muslim League, speaking at the League's annual meeting | in Madras yesterday.

He advocated "the establish- ment of completely independent states" in the north-west and east- ern zones of India, with full con- ¡trol over defence, finance and for-

eign affairs.

He declared Muslims were an Independent nationality and any attempt to get them to merge their national political identity with the rest of the population would be resisted.

TOUGH ON NAVY

Mrs. Grundy is at it again-- spoiling the fun of naval men on a few hours' leave from patroll. ing the seus.

The Navy's weekly dance at one north-east coast base must end at eleven o'clock by order of the local Licensing Bench. And there must be no drinka after ten o'clock.

Yet in neighbouring districts dances go on until two in the morning.

Until a week or two ago the cur ew time at the town's only dance hall was ten o'clock. When a local bus company persuaded the Bench to grant them an extra hour's festivity at a dance, how- ever, the naval renewed their pleas and obtained the same con-

cession.

Tickets Handed Back

"Personally I have never been able to understand why it is im- moral or undesirable for us to en- joy ourselves after ten or eleven at night," the base entertainmen's' Meer told # reporter, "but the magistrates apparently think

utherwise.

"We arrangé about one dance per week but

people have been Banding back their tickets when they learned the time it finished.

"It is unfair to expect fellows who have been doing dangerous

jobs at sea for weeks at a time 10 slop celebrating at eleven o'clock when they get a day or two ashore, or perhaps only a few hours' leave."

There are one or two Scrooges on the Bench besides Mrs. Grundys.

naval dance went to the Lord Mavor of London's Fund for air raid victims.

When next the naval men ap- piled for permission to hold a dance, +ho magistratca told them: "This time we expect the monev to remain in the dia- triot."

The magistrates' deputy clerk explainer that the Bench were afraid that if they granted lat hours for dances, people would #et drunk and there would be disturbances.
