DEATH OF FAMOUS GOLFING FIGURE
FRONT RANK GOLFER for more than a quar- ter of a century, winner of eight British amateur titles, and the first amateur to win the Open, Mr. John Ball died recently at Holywell, North Wales, aged 79.
A native of Hoylake, Cheshire. Ball, acclaimed by all as a "börn golfer," made an appearance in an Open championship when in his 'teens, and startled the golfing world by finishing sixth, only eight strokes behind the winner.
