HE WASN'T TOO OLD
AT 40-WINS D.F.C.
WHEN AN IMPERIAL Airways pilot volunteer- ed for the R.A.F. he found it difficult to persuade them he was not “too old at forty” for war flying.
Now the pilot Flight-Lieutenant Patrick Windsor Lynch-Blosse-has been awarded the D.F.C. for a daring bombing raid on an aircraft fac- tory near Berlin. He scored direct hits on the main building.
Up to a few months ago, Flying-Lieutenant Lynch-Blosse was piloting large passenger fly- ing-boats on the Empire routes.
At her home at Bassett, South- ampton, Mrs. Lynch-Blosse told a reporter: "When my husband volunteered for service with the R.A.F. he found that the authorities were reluctant to let him do 'Front line' duty on ac- count of his age.

Other R.A.F. awards announced included the D.S.O. for Acting Squadron-Leader Michael Ni- cholson Crossley, D.F.C., who has destroyed at east eighteen enemy planes and probably another five..
Squadron-Leader Crossley won the D.F.C. in June.

Fell Like Plums
The opinion that the Germans have gained nothing from their air raids over Britain is ex- pressed in most cables from London published in the Am- erlcan ·Press,
""Hitler's mightiest effort to knock out the R.A.F. is a costly failure," says the correspondent of the International News Service, In describing the air battle over South-East England he says the German planes "fell like over-ripe plums from a tree at the rate of one every two minutes.".

A tour over 100 miles of bomb- ed areas made by a representative: of the Associated Press revealed: that only one bombing attack had done any military damage. The Berlin versions of the raids on Britain obtained a secondary place in the American Press adds Reu- ter.
