BRITAIN CUTS INTO GERMAN COMMERCE IN TURKEY

THE BRITISH AND Turkish Governments have now concluded arrangements which they hope will bring about a considerable in- crease in trade through commercial ex- changes between Turkey and the British: Empire.

During the validity of the arrangements: provision is made that payments between Tur- key and the sterling area shall be effected at the existing rate of exchange between ster ling and the Turkish pound and that special accounts be created in order to facilitate com- mercial and other payments between the two Countries.

...The present arrangement is complementary to the trade and payments agreement signed in London on Feb. 3:

Reuter's diplomatic.corres. pondent writes that the new agreement is not only of. com- mercial but also of political significance, and is in fact a challenge "by the British Gov- ernment, to German económic domination in the Balkans.

It is believed possible that Ger- many may put forward a tempt- ing. commercial proposition. to .Turkey but the agreement should
