AMERICANS SMASHING R.A.F.
IN R.A.F.
SINCE THE FACT THAT AMERICANS CAN JOIN THE R.A.F. WAS MENTIONED MANY APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED FROM AMERICANS IN BRITAIN.
The Air Ministry has, for some time been receiving applications from Americans.in the United States, and these have now been sent to the headquarters of the Royal Canadian Air Force,
Unawa.
Americans Among the
who have joined in England are five who had been serving in a French air squadron. So far, all the Americans who have applied in Britain have been given commis- sions, on account of their ex- perience.
In Cánáda' more than 400 have already joined, and among them are many highly qualified ́in- ⚫structors, who are a valuable aç- qulsition. on account of the Ein- „pire Air Training scheme.
• There is no intention of form- ing special American squadrons either in Britain or in Canada.
BLOWS AT NAZI OIL CENTRES
OIL SUPPLY CENTRES in Germany were singled out for concerted operations by the R.A.F. during a series of smashing blows dealt at vital points by bombers on Thursday night.
Seven great oil plants at Hamburg, Han- over, Cologne, Magdeburg, Gerlsenkirchen, Leuna and Reischoltz, with a combined an- ・nual output capacity of nearly 1,500,000 meric tons, were heavily attacked by separate raiding forces and widespread damage is be- lieved to have been caused to oil stores of vital importance to the German war machine.
