Hungarians Check Aspiration On Berlin Hint

Soviet Firmly Entrenched

In Bessarabia

London, To-day.

SOVIET TROOPS HAVE NOW fully entrenched themselves in Bessarabia and northern Bukovina, and the Ru- manian Government is now looking to the future. London circles point out that Rumania's renunciation of Britain's guarantee of her frontiers can only mean that Rumania's policy will henceforth be determined in Rome and Berlin, not Bucharest.

The official British attitude to the

renunciation is that the guarantee COLONY'S

was unilateral and the Rumanian de- cision, therefore, does not affect the freedom of the British Government to decide for itself whether or not cir- cumstances have arisen calling for the guarantee to be put into force.--Reu- teri..

Hungarian Policy Changed To Suit Reich

London, To-day. There are signs of a change of at- titude in Hungary.

On Monday night, both Bucharest and Budapest said that Rumanian and Hungarian troops had clashed on the frontier. A few hours later, Buda- pest radio issued an official denial.

The Hungarian Cabinet met on Mon- duy night for four hours and it is be- lieved to have decided against mobili- zation and even considered the with- drawal of frontier troops in order to avoid any incidents.
