MALAYA'S FOURTEEN BOMBERS IN COLONIAL FLEET
London, To-day.
MALAYA HAS 14 BOMBERS in the colonial air fleet of 200
aircraft which is now ready for service. The Ministry of Aircraft Production told Reuter's air cor- respondent yesterday that the scheme is hitherto not completed in detail but the next stage would be to find out in which R.A.F. squadrons colonial personnel are serving, in order that the aircraft can as far as possible be attached to them and manned by pilots and gunners from the different colonies concerned.
SPEED-UP IN FLYING TRAINING
London, To-day.
The Air Minister, Sir Archibald Sinclair, announc- ed in the House of Commons yesterday that a number of steps had been taken which would have the effect of speeding up very consider- ably the output of pilots and other flying personnel dur- ing the next few months.
He had also decided that all de- partments of the Air Ministry con- cerned with training should be placed under the direction of a new mem- ber of the Air Council to be called the Air Member for Training.
This officer would be charged not only with the responsibility of en- suring that the training organisa- tion was at all times adequate to meet the requirements of the ser- vice in keeping pace with the in- creased flow of production but would also have special respon- sibility for all matters concerned with the Empire training scheme.
The officer selected for this work was Air Vice-Marshal A. G. R. Gar- rod.-Reuter.

The Ministry's spokesman said: "It is proposed to christen the Mala- yan aircraft after prominent place names such as Singapore, Penang and

won't çarry their names into battle. We don't want the enemy to distinguish and perhaps make capital out of the origin of any one shot down."
Hitherto it is not known whether there are sufficient personnel from Malaya serving in the-R.A.F. to fly all the aircraft towards which the public there have so generously contributed approximately £322,000, but every cf- fort will be made to see that every Malayan bomber, pilot or gunner will be able to raid the enemy in his own "Malayan" plane.-Reuter.
