“IN CO-OPERATION WITH the R.A.F., naval and military forces yesterday (Tuesday) carried out a successful reconnaissance of the enemy coast line," states a Ministry of Information com- munique issued yesterday afternoon. "Landings were effected at a number of points and contact was made with German troops. Casual- ties were inflicted and some enemy dead fell into our hands.

tained and our forces suffered no casualties."

Germany, a semi-official spokesman commented yesterday evening.

A man who saved the R.A.F. pilot of a crashed and burning bomber in the face of exploding machine-gun ammunition,
and made, a vain effort to save two other trapped airmen, has been awarded the medal of the Civil Division of the O.B.E. for meri- torious Service.
He is Mr. Robert Longstaff, of North Broomhill, and with his brother, George, they carried on with the rescue work until they were driven back by the heat.
