THE INFLUENTIAL “Christian Science Monitor” of Boston, in a leading article, urges the United States to "take more active steps to repel the Nazi assault,” and outlines the following seven- point programme.

1. Organise and finance refugee relief. 2. Repeal the Johnson Act (prohibiting loans to

countries who have not repaid past loans). 3. Speed up the delivery of aeroplanes to the Allies. 4. Remove restrictions which prevent Americans

from volunteering.

5. Encourage the chartering and building of merchant-ships to supply

the Allies.

6. Permit the Allies to pay for war supplies with raw materials need- ed by the United States in the event

of war.

7. Cease the trans-shipment of war materials via Russia and Japan.
