MUTINY ON THE high seas by a Danish crew brought the Jessie Mersk, 2,000 tons, and her 3,000 tons of phosphate to a British port.

The captain was obeying German orders and steering for a neutral port when seven of the crew heard a Bri- tish broadcast urging Danish ships to go to Allfed ports.

They overpowered the captain and chief officer and took the ship to Bri- tain.

"We were in mid-Atlantic when we heard of our country's invasion," one of the mutineers, a young English- speaking Dane, told a reporter in London.

"Our captain received orders from Copenhagen to put into a neutral port. "At midnight, seven of us, listening to the radio in the fo'c'sle, heard a message from the British trade unions telling us the true facts, and asking Danish and Norwegian ships to make

for Allied ports.

"We decided to follow this advice. It was pitch dark. We crept on to the bridge and asked the chief officer where we were bound.

"When he said we were making for Ireland, we tled him with ropes and placed him in the wheelhouse. "Then, while another man assumed control, we made for the captain's cabin.

"He was asleep. We roused him and tried to persuade him to make for England. He refused."
