These dramatic pictures, just received, show how the crew of the German merchantman Arucas, were saved when the vessel was scuttled waters at the approach of a British warship. British sea- men jumped into the icy water to rescue some Nazi seamen, and it is a great tribute to the British Navy that of the 53 men on board the enemy vessel, 40 were saved. Three others died after having been taken from the water and 10 were missing, presumed to have been drowned. Heavy seas made it impossible to launch rescue boat and many of the Germans were rescued by means of lifelines and in some cases our men dived over- board to secure lifelines to apparently life-less and half- frozen bodies.
