MAKES OWN MOUNTAIN
New York, May 3. Mahomet had to go to the mountain, but in Hollywood the all-powerful producer, Cecil B. De Mille, has made а mountain come to him.
De Mille, who always does things in a big way, sat on his mountain 'to- day among 1,150 pine trees planted in
s earth and paper-mache, soil,
Deciding that it was too much trouble to move to a distant mountain for the filming of "North-West Mount- ed Police," De Mille spent more than £60,000 building his mountain in the studio grounds.
It is the biggest set ever constructed in Hollywood, rivalling a private oc- can built several weeks ago.
Realising that all the best moun- tains have trees, De Mille engaged an army of lumbermen to cut down 1,150 trees from the nearby coun try-side and transport them to his mountain.
LIKE FLOWERS IN POT These have been planted like flowers in a pot, and some are forty feet high. After ten days the trees will wilt, as they are without roots, so the
SITUATION AT SEA
London, To-day. Denying German claims of successes at sea, the Admiralty state no British warship has been sunk, set on fire or seriously damaged since the German invasion of the Low Countries, with the exception of the submarine Seal,
German claims of losses or serious damage by air attack to transports and merchant ships are equally untrue.
No mishap has befallen any Bri- tish, transport or supply ship during the Netherlands campaign.-Reuter.

BUFFALO, N.Y., MAY 6.
GRAF SPEE OFFICERS ESCAPE
Officers of the Graf Spee
are to
be interned on the island of Martin Garcia by the Argentine Government, it was announced in Buenos Aires.
The officers refused to give their words of honour not to leave a 31- mile radius of the capital without permission.
The crew will remain at their pre- sent locations until they are gradually absorbed into the provinces.
IN DISGUISE
The Argentine Government's action follows the escape of one captain and two lieutenants of the Graf Spee.
They dressed in civilian clothes, walked out of the marine arsenal, last the immigration offices, and disappeared. On the same day two sailors obtained leave, and they have not returned yet.
Those affected by the Government's decision include Captain Walter Kay, second in command of the Graf Spee, 32 officers, and 210 warrant officers. There are also 400 sailors.
The Ministry of the Interior reports that it has received information from Santos, Brazil, that the captain of the liner Neptunia has handed to the authorities two Graf Spee stowaways found on his ship.
A report from Sante Fe, says that two of the group of Graf Spee sailors recently sent there have also disap- peared.

A detective characterized the youth's spy story as fantastic,
adding that the "Federal Bureau of Investigation agents must have thought so too, or they wouldn't have turned him over to the immigration department," F.B.I. agents admitted turning the Ger- man over to the immigration authori- ties after questioning him, but de- clined further comment.
The lad said he did not know the name of his spy friend, and that he had come to Buffalo to keep a ren- dezvous with a Nazi spy. He presum- ably referred to the same person- Reuter.
Women don't care what happens to their hair these days and it's all

"Before the war I had two busi- nesses; now I have only one, I am and some running it single-handed, days: I take only 2s. 6d. or 3s. 6d." said Mrs, Western.
The Registrar: But hair grows and has to be cut.
