Allied troops are closing in round Narvik, and the French commander in this sector reports that the Germans have been retreating steadily in the past few days.
They have no heavy artillery, but have plenty of machine-guns. They are completely separated from other German forces In Northern Norway.
The commander expresses his com- plete certainty that the situation is extremely difficult for the Germans. Daily supplies landed by Nazi 'planes were not enough.
In view of the excellent defence positions at Narvik, however, and to avoid unnecessary loss of life, opera- tions will continue to be slow but sure.-Reuter.
