Although Portugal subdued the Rest, 9-3, a good brand of softball was dished out to the Macao audience and it was a fitting introduction the sport in the neighbouring colony. Portugal played a brilliant game, with only two miscues, resulting per- haps as the result of the presence of their own people, who composed the majority of the spectators.

GOOD START

Portugal started off with four tal- lies in the first canto on two hits and three wild throws. The Rest were very jittery on the field, chalking up no fewer than eight" bobbles during the fray. Even the great Bambino Dave Leonard was off colour both on the field and with the bat, He bungled three chances at the hot cor- ner and made no hits in three times up. Three more runs in the second frame iced the tilt for Portugal. The

defence Rest tightened their the second stanza to hold the tuguese to two counts for the rest of the game but the damage was already done and the lead too big to over- come.
