NO MORE MAILS VIA SIBERIA

BC-

Shanghai, To-day. The local Post Office has cepted a request from the British authorities in Shanghal to send local British mail destined for Europe by a route other than 8l- beria, unless specified by the Benders.

Motive of the request is to avold British letters falling into the German consors' hands.

An official of the Post Office said that hereafter, unless mail is marked via Siberia, it will be sent to Europe via Suez or the Pacific-Reuter.

AIR ACE WEDDING- DAY SECRET

Air ace Alex Henshaw, twenty- seven, holder of the England to the Cape and back flying record, has a secret.

It is the date of his marriage to the Countess de Chateaubrun, twenty-four, widow of his close friend, the Count de G. de Chateaubrun.

The Count, a Frenchman, was killed in an air crash in Paris eight months after his wedding in December, 1988. The Countess, before her marriage was Miss Barbara Wenman, a well- known British airwoman.

Notice of the marriage has been given at the Southampton Register Office by the Countess, who lives at Abborfield Meopham, Kent,

The wedding will take place at Westminster Cathedral.

In the afternoon, when it was learned that the Japanese had with- drawn from Shatau to Namitau, the refugees returned to their homes.

An official message issued last night by the Magistrate of Namtau who is now in Shumchun states:

"At 8 a.m. on March 21, 300 puppet troops under a puppet commander, Ho Wei-ming, landed near Chekwan.

"At 9 a.m. they reached Namtau and owing to the small number of troops in the town, the Chinese forces withdrew towards Shumchun.

"At 2 a.m. on March 22, the Japan- ese struck out towards Shumchun but were halted by an armed force at Shatau and after a skirmish the pup- pet troops retreated to Namtau.

"Our troops are now positioned at different points along the Namtau Shumchun Highway.”

Reports from the border this morn- ing state that the puppet forces are still at Namtàu, but rumours were flying about that they plan to strike out to Shumchun this morning. These reports could, however, not be con- firmed at the time of going to press.

"ALL QUIET" The Police Authorities told the "China Mail" 'all is quiet on the border.'

From other sources the "China Mail" learns that the "puppet" troops had withdrawn from Namtau.. and returned to their ships.

This could not be confirmed owing to the obscure situation in the Nam- tau area.

It is, however, reliably reported that all Shumchun officials have re- turned to their posts.
