CONVOY DESCRIBED

Copenhagen, Feb. 7. German newspaper publish to-day what purports to be a description of an attack by German" aeroplanes on a convoy off the British coast on Satur- day. The author is said to be a journ- alist on Goebbels's propaganda staff who was in one of the machines which took part in the attack.

The rald (according to the writer) lasted altogether about an hour and 50 minutes. The Germans made five,

Germans tack was made, and the dropped a bomb on a 3,000-ton mer- chant ship at the rear of the convoy The ship immediately developed a list. Some, hundred yards to the north the Germans saw a steamer, on fire, It was the ship they had hit with their first bomb: The bows were enveloped in smoke. Near the coast could be seen three British destroyers.

After making a fifth attack under hail of AA fire the Germans turn-

In the German Press, described the war against Great Britain as a gueril- la war.

LARGE CONVOY When the German machines were near the coast the writer's aeroplane dived, down from the clouds and he saw at some distance a convoy of more than 20 ships, one of the biggest and most strongly protected which the Germans had ever observed in that part of the North Sea. It was guard- ed by one air defence cruiser, three destroyers, and three torpedo-boats. The Germans dived down again, and this time a light signal was seen; pre- sumably...the cruiser had given the | alarm. Anti-aircraft-guns opened fire at a distance of some 300ft. The direc- tion was correct, but not the range. The Germans tried in vain to bomb the ships at the rear of the convoy; they were constantly harassed by the fire from the guns.

FIVE ATTACKS

The next time they attacked the Germans succeeded in passing through the, barrage and dropped a bomb on one of the merchantmen. The convoy dispersed, each ship taking a zigzag course. In the third attack the Ger- mans suddenly encountered a British "air destroyer". (presumably a fighter aeroplane) and immediately disap-. peared into the clouds.

Germany's weapons (he said) were U-boats and aircraft, and they could wage a deadly guerilla warfare.
