SECRET OF THE GRAF SPEE PUERILE EFFORT

THE POOR QUALITY of the crew of the Admiral Graf Spee has been revealed to the Admiralty by the British mer- chant captains and wireless operators.

The Graf Spee's crew, they said, was abnormally young, from 17 to 22 years of age. Some of them had never been afloat before and were inexperienced and unhandy. "They weren't seamen, they didn't know the first thing about it," said one captain. "If they could do anything wrongly, they did it!"
