MANCHUKUO HIT BY WAR: GERMAN IMPORTS

STOPPED

A NEUTRAL REPORT from Dairen states that the Manchukuo exports and industry have been seriously influenced by the European war. The main reason is the limited possibilities of export- ing soya beans to Germany.

When Manchukuo signed the Trade Treaty with Germany a few years ago, based on the Manchu- kuoan Five Year Plan, it was understood that Manchukuoan industry was to be built up with German machinery and materials, while the main barter product was to be soya beans.

As a sequel to the European war, Manchukuo is able to ship only small quantities of soya beans to Germany, hence German exporters have stopped their exports of machinery, chemicals, dye-stuffs, etc.

Thus the economic situation in Man- chukuo has become difficult for two reasons; firstly, large quantities of soya beans remain unsold; secondly, many factories are vainly waiting for machinery and chemicals.
