MOSCOW- BERLIN AIRLINE

Moscow, To-day. The Moscow radio that a Soviet passenger plane has left Moscow on the first trial flight in the new Moscow - Berlin air service.

The report says that a German plane will fly to Moscow January 12 and the regular ser- vice begins on January 21 via Minsk, Koenigsberg and Danzig, -Reuter.

SOLDIERS DETAINED

Two British soldiers were arrested and detained by the Police yesterday, in connection with the incident in Mr. T... B. Wilson's residence on Sunday morning.

The men were still in custody this morning although no charges had yet been preferred against them.

On Sunday morning at about two o'clock, Mr. Wilson, residing at No. 143, Waterloo Road, was awakened by a noise in his bedroom. He found two soldiers in the room,

-After they had left, Mr. Wilson found two watches missing and re- ported the incident to the police.

40,000 U.S. PILOTS

Washington, To-day. The Civil Aeronautic Authority's first annual report to Congress reveal- ed that the number of licensed pilots will reach 40,000 before the end of the year.

The Committee demanded appropriation of $125,000,000 for the development of alrfields in the United States.

The report emphasised that passen- ger transport increased by 54.9 per cent, over last year, goods transport by 49.7 per cent. and mail transport by 12.5 per cent.

The report pointed out that the building of new aerodromes will be an important addition to the defence system of the United States-Havas.

GAMBLERS FORFEIT BAIL

The Treasury benefited to the extent of $340.40 this morning when a num- ber of Chinese were charged at the Central Magistracy before Mr. T. J. Houston, for keeping a common gambl- ing house and gambling at No. 491 Queen's Road West, yesterday.

The keeper, Li Tung, 32, unemploy- ed, who failed to appear in Court, had his bail of $100 estreated, while 47 others who were gambling in the pre- mises had their bail of $5 each estreat- ed.

Detective Sergeant R. McVey told the Court that the people were play- ing dice when the Police raided the house.

A sum of $3.40 which picked up during the raid was donated to the poor box.
